Rajmachi Trek- A Delightful Trek in Monsoon

About Rajmachi

The exciting fact about Rajmachi is that it is one of the most historic forts in Maharashtra that make us the glory of the Maratha Empire. It is located near the Lonavala region at the elevation of 2,710 feet above sea level. Lonavala is also a famous tourist destination of Maharashtra which is experienced by several tourists in each season from all over India.

The fort Rajmachi is also known for the most picturesque views of Sahyadri Range and Shirota Dam. The fort has two small forts which are called Balekilla,i.e., Shivvardhan and Manaranjan that are the main attractions of Rajmachi Fort. It is 16 kilometers away from Lonavala so trekking to reach it is blissful. The trek route is lush green comprising flora of Western Ghats. The Udhewadi village is the base point for trekking at Rajmachi Fort. There is another wonder you can experience that is Kataldhar waterfall from Shivvardhan Balekilla.

Fireflies at Rajmachi

The Rajmachi Trek is known as Fireflies trek also. The climatic conditions there are most suitable for flourishing fireflies. It is an incredible insect that glows at night due to the strange biological phenomena. That phenomena are due to the chemical reaction inside the body of fireflies which makes them different from the family of other insects. The monsoon season is the most suitable time to see them. In the monsoon season, you can easily spot them. It will be one of the best weekend getaway from Pune and Mumbai from the busy, crowded life. 

Difficulty Level of Rajmachi Trek

The difficulty level of this trek depends upon which way you have chosen. There are two ways by which you can trek one is from Udhewadi Village, and another is from Kondane Caves. The difficulty level from the Udhewadi side is of easy level, but if you are hiking from the Kondane side, then the scale becomes moderate as the terrain is rocky and rugged, which requires some expertise. It is advised for the beginners to trek from the Udhewadi side will be more suitable and convenient for trekking as it is the straight route; however, having a little bit of a steep climb at some points.

How to Reach Rajmachi

The place Rajmachi lies between Mumbai and Pune so you can reach there from both sides. The nearest railway station is Lonavala Railway Station. To reach Lonavala from Pune and Mumbai is not a tough task you can easily find the train from there. As you enter there, you can hire a private jeep or also you can take a sharing vehicle which will be beneficial for all means of transportation as well as knowledge-wise. While riding on a shared jeep, you can request the local person for sharing some tips regarding trekking, places to visit, accommodation and stay. The Udhevadi is the base village to ascend Rajmachi Trek. There are two ways to reach Udhevadi, one is from via Kunhe Village, and another route goes to Udhevadi from Lonavala is via Tungarli, Nandgaon.

Best Time to Visit Rajmachi Trek

The Rajmachi Trek is good to visit throughout the year as it is settled amidst lush green surroundings of Sahyadri Range of Western Ghats. The best time to visit is from July to September. These are the months of monsoon when greenery remains on the verge. During this time you will get the chance to see the full spectrum of flora and fauna around Rajmachi Trek. There may be some humidity; however, winds remain fresh and pleasant. The temperature stays around 24°C – 29°C.
